Lake Creek Lodge began as Martin Hansen’s Resort in the 1920’s. The main lodge burned and was replaced circa 1935. Bud and Roblay McMullin purchased the resort in 1938 and operated it for over thirty years. The property originally included about 70 acres of land and advertised a “sheep pasture” golf course on what is today Metolius Meadows. Bud McMullin died in 1955, and when Roblay sold the lodge in the late 1970’s she retained a life estate in her cabin. She lived there until 2001 when she passed away on the property, as was her wish. |

| Lake Creek Lodge
was purchased in the 1970’s by a group of thirteen owners. The majority
stockholders and managing members were five retired Oregon State
University professors, Margaret Lumpkin (1924-2005), Velda Brust, Lisa
Taubman (1925-2003), Gwenyth Britton and Margaret’s sister Martha who
resides on the east coast. They operated the lodge for some 27 years and
made significant upgrades to the rustic cabins, including wall insulation,
thermal-paned windows, foundations, electricity and indoor plumbing. They
also sold approximately 30 acres of the property, including the original
barn, stables and wranglers’ house.
The pond on the site, which was constructed by Hansen as a swimming hole, was stocked with trout and fishing was reserved for children. Although the pond is no longer stocked (as a protection for the native species in Lake Creek) it still provides excellent fishing and a great place to hone your fly-casting skills. |

Since taking ownership of the property in 2003, we have made several improvements to the property. The pool area has been upgraded with a new deck and furniture, landscaping/irrigation and fencing. The tennis courts have new nets and windscreens and the basketball court has a new backboard. We have also upgraded the irrigation system throughout the property which allows us to manage our water consumption as well as being able to keep the grounds lush and green. The cabins have also had several upgrades including new dishes, cookware, linens and towels. We will continue to make upgrades to the cabins in the coming years. The Lodge has also had several changes. We removed the carpeting from the lobby and great room and restored the hardwood floors to their original beauty. We also replaced the carpeting in the dining room. Work has begun on restoring the woodlands area behind the lodge. In conjunction with the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council and the Deschutes River Conservancy, Lake Creek Lodge has begun a project to restore and improve the riparian vegetation along the creek. In the fall of 2006, work will begin to improve fisheries habitat on Lake Creek as part of a program to restore native anadromous fish runs into the Metolius Basin.
